Kaenga is an organisation dedicated to improving neighbourhoods through advances in architecture and home ownership. This take the form of co-housing and related housing solutions that avoid the pitfalls of modern home ownership and housing challenges.

We are a for profit organisation, but we do not measure our success on financial results only.

I’ve had the privilege of living in a lot of great cities but I haven’t always enjoyed them. At times they’ve felt empty and I’ve felt incredibly lonely.

What I’ve realized is that one of things that make a city come alive is having a group of people to share it with.

That can be hard when everybody’s busy living their own lives, but well-designed dwellings with plenty of shared space can create a sense of belonging.

That’s why I’m committed to using my skills in finance and entrepreneurship to create more homes with a real sense of community.

Noah Fagan

Lead Architect

I have worked as an architect for more than fourteen years. Over that time I’ve designed lots of projects, from individual houses to 200 unit developments.

What this experience has taught me is that the traditional real estate development model needs to change.

We need to develop the underutilised spaces in our city, while providing warm, welcoming homes to all segments of society. Not just for those with millions.

I’m excited about this new approach because it allows us to provide affordable housing that relieves the pressure on the transport, the environment and living in general.

Nicolaas Thiemen

Technology and Innovation

I am interested in the area where beautiful design meets a thoughtful living. In short, design that supports inclusiveness; design that follows environmental best practice; and design that allows us to live simple, happy lives - as they used to say in the Diesel advert - for successful living. New Zealand is moving rapidly from the quarter acre colonial villa to high rise apartments. I am very excited to be part of Kaenga to make a difference in the shape that future housing in Aotearoa and beyond will take.
